"No part of the county is more sensitive to growth issues than west county, so it is critical for voters there to elect someone who can protect their quality of life and fight for their interests. The clear choice is Gambrills native Jamie Benoit." - The Capital Newspaper
The need for better land use planning has reached a crisis level in Anne Arundel County. The Chespeake Bay and its many tributaries are the gem of the State of Maryland. With over 500 miles of shoreline in our County, it is incumbent upon the residents of Anne Arundel County that we treat her accordingly.
Land use affects the levels of air and water pollution, determines the nature of drainage, flood control, and water supply problems, affects the levels of traffic congestion, and establishes the degree of protection that can be afforded to the underlying and sustaining natural resource base." The following statements reflect my position on land use and open space in Anne Arundel County: - I believe that developers should pay reasonable development impact fees to help cover the cost of additional infrastructure and additional school classrooms.
- I support the continued use of a Purchase and Transfer of Development Rights program for preserving farmlands and/or open space preservation.
- I support that the Greenway be left in a natural state so habitat and wildlife will continue to thrive, to improve our water quality, for increased recreational opportunities, and for relief from a continuously congested lifestyle.
- I support the coordination of transportation needs. To preserve air quality and non-renewable energy, development must be planned in such a way as to be served by mass transit. This is particularly true in Odenton and place surrounding Fort Meade.
- I strongly support comprehensive planning for the housing needs of ALL people. I further support land use plans that includes areas of smaller lots and smaller setback requirements to accommodate truly affordable housing.
- I support pedestrian friendly development such as the Odenton Town Center and will continue to work to build more bike trails in the County.
- I support increased emphasis on acquisition of land for parks and recreation.
- A public and comprehensive approach to the General Development Plan.
The citizens of Anne Arundel County place an extraordinarily high value on the quality of life we enjoy here. We are blessed with amazing scenery, recreational opportunities, educational resources and history much of which is directly tied to the Chesapeake Bay. The preservation of this quality of life is among the most important economic decisions we can make in this County. Know that I will always vote and advocate for your quality of life.
